The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) announced yesterday the opening of the International Research Training Group "Self-Organized Materials for Optoelectronics." Scientists from Germany's University of Mainz will provide expertise in material science and basic research, while those from Korea's Seoul National University and Hannam University will contribute practical application expertise. Doctoral students will conduct research under the joint supervision of German and Korean scientists, gaining experience in both countries. The training group, which was established by DFG and KOSEF in Sept. 2005, will examine how self-organizing structures that enable the formation and optimization of ordered structures can be used in optoelectronics applications such as displays or photovoltaic solar cells. Those involved said that, if successful, the collaboration could lead to more partnerships between German and Korean research institutions and companies.
