KANATA, Ontario, Aug. 16 -- GSI Lumonics has received a favorable decision in patent litigation against the claims of Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. The United States District Court for the Central District of California granted GSLI's motion for summary judgment of non-infringement and denied ESIO's motion for summary judgment of infringement. ESIO initiated the patient infringement litigation against GSLI and Dynamic Details, Inc., an unrelated party that is one of GSLI's customers, in March 2000, relating to the GS-600 high speed laser drilling system sold by GSLI and used by Dynamic Details, Inc. ESIO sought an injunction, unspecified damages, trebling of those damages and attorneys' fees. In its ruling, the Court concluded that the GS-600 system did not literally infringe the asserted claims of the alleged ESIO patent, nor did it infringe under the doctrine of equivalents.
