Fujitsu Quantum Devices and Sumitomo Electric Industries Redefine MSA

TOKYO, Sept. 9 -- Fujitsu Quantum Devices Ltd. and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. have announced enhancements to their multisource agreement (MSA) for a 10 Gb/s transmission laser diode module.

The MSA, which was announced in March 2002, defines a standard for a 1.55 micron wavelength distributed feedback laser diode. The laser diode is monolithically integrated with an electro-absorption modulator mounted onto a metal ceramic package with a driver IC. It transmits data at speeds of 10 Gb/s, in compliance with ITU-T G.691 and Telecodia GR-253-CORE. In response to customer requests, the MSA specifications were defined in further detail, and new product types, including direct modulation types, were added to increase the ease of use for the designers of system equipment and optical transceivers and transponders.

In addition, NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Ltd., NTT Electronics Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. have joined the MSA.
