Ralph James, regarded as a pioneer in optical and photonics technology development for hi-res spectroscopy and imaging, is the latest to be inducted into the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame. Former president of SPIE and a current SPIE Fellow, James is a senior scientist and group leader in the Nonproliferation & National Security Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory, where he conducts basic and applied research on novel materials, electro-optical devices, imaging systems and instrumentation. He is a former chair of the Council of Scientific Society Presidents, and a past recipient of Discover Magazine's Innovator of the Year designation for his technical accomplishments in developing semiconductors for digital imaging of radiation.
