HO CHI MINH, Vietnam, Nov. 18 -- FPT Telecom, a leading multimedia and Internet service provider in Vietnam, has installed the first metro Ethernet and optical network in the country.
The 10 Gb/s next-generation network, was built with a Cisco metro Ethernet, broadband and Internet protocol/multiprotocol label switching system, will deliver data, voice and video services over high-speed broadband connections.
The new network uses Cisco's ONS 15454 synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) multiservice provisioning platform, which provides legacy time-division multiplexing, metro Ethernet, storage area networking connectivity and wavelength services through integrated dense wavelength-division multiplexing and reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer technologies.
James Chia, general director of Cisco Systems Vietnam, said the project could be a catalyst for growth of the Internet in Vietnam.
FPT Telecom (a member of FPT Corp., which had been known as FPT Communications) was awarded a license to provide Internet services in Vietnam in April 2002.
