Drexler Wins Order for Border ID Cards

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 21 -- Drexler Technology Corp. has received a $4.8 million order for LaserCard Triple-Image identification cards for an ongoing US border-crossing ID card program.

The highly secure optical memory cards are slated for use as US Department of State "Laser Visa" cards for frequent visitors from Mexico crossing the border into the states of Texas, Arizona, and California -- for visits, shopping, and other consumer activities. At this time, Mexico is the only country designated to utilize the "Laser Visa" card for tourist visas.

The card order is part of an $81 million government procurement program for US Immigration and Naturalization Service "Green Cards" and "Laser Visas." Under the five-year US government subcontract awarded to the company in June 2000 for up to 24 million LaserCard optical memory cards, approximately 5,800,000 cards have been ordered thus far.
