Cymer Inc., a supplier of deep ultraviolet (DUV) light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing, announced that Takeshi Watanabe was promoted to president of Cymer Japan Inc.. He will report to Jim McGuire, who was recently named senior vice president of Cymer's worldwide customer operations. Watanabe formerly led the marketing and sales team for one of Cymer's major customers; he previously held management positions with multinational technology companies in Japan such as Guidant, Duracell, Kulicke and Soffa, Sony Music Entertainment and Measurex Japan Ltd.   . . . Infinova, a Monmouth Junction, N.J.-based manufacturer of products for closed-circuit TV security/surveillance, access control systems and fiber optic communications, announced it has hired Ron Miller as a US regional sales manager for Minnesota, eastern Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Colorado. Miller formerly managed a region for a Fortune 50 company and has directed sales and service for systems integrators. He will focus on expanding Infinova's participation in the security and transportation surveillance markets.    . . .    Microvision, a Bothell, Wash., developer of light-scanning technologies for displays and imaging, announced it was awarded a Small Business Innovative Research contract for approximately $730,000 from the US Army tank-automotive and armaments command to make a full-color portable, head-worn display demonstration system. The contract follows a study by Microvision showing the migration path from its current monochrome display system to a full-color display and the benefits of a daylight readable, see-through color display compared to the cathode-ray tubes now used in the Army's ground and air fleet.

deep ultraviolet
Deep ultraviolet (DUV or deep-UV) refers to a specific range of ultraviolet light with shorter wavelengths than those in the UV-A and UV-B regions. The exact wavelength range considered as DUV can vary, but it often includes wavelengths from around 100 to 300 nanometers. DUV light is shorter in wavelength and higher in energy than visible light.
