Actuality Systems Inc., a Burlington, Mass., developer of spatial 3-D visualization technology, has installed at Perspecta spatial 3-D system in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. The system will be used by researchers to explore the use of advanced 3-D image display technology in planning radiation treatment for cancer patients. . . .    Digital Infrared Imaging Inc., an Orlando, Fla., maker of thermal imaging systems, announced that the Port of Beaumont in southeast Texas has selected its thermal infrared cameras to provide perimeter security and surveillance at the port. The port has received more than $7 million in federal grants over the past few years to beef up security, including advanced intrusion monitoring systems, command/control and communications centers and camera surveillance system improvements. The port handles approximately 25 percent of all cargo sent to Iraq from 53 military bases in 29 states. The cameras will be delivered between December and January. Installation is scheduled to begin in early 2005.    . . .    Given Imaging, an Israel-baesd maker of capsule endoscopy systems, announced it has received marketing clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its 14-frame PillCam ESO video capsule and Rapid 3 software, which are used to visualize the small intestine for detecting gastrointestinal disorders. Given said it will immediately begin marketing and selling the software, upgrading eligible customers and delivering PillCam ESO to market. Its first sale of the system, valued at $10 million, is from Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that makes advanced surgical instruments and medical devices.    . . .    Janet Lankard has been named vice president of sales at Quantum Dot Corp., a Hayward, Calif., developer of Qdot nanocrystals for biodetection in discovery and clinical applications. Lankard, who will launch the company's Launch mosaic gene expression assay system, was formerly director of sales for Affymetrix Inc. and was previously a sales manager at Applied Biosystems Inc. She is a member of the industrial advisory board at California Polytechnic State University.
