Biophan Technologies Inc. a Rochester, N.Y., developer of biomedical technology, announced that David A. Glocker, PhD, has joined its scientific advisory board. Glocker is president of Isoflux Inc., a Rochester manufacturer of magnetron equipment, which he founded in 1993. He was formerly head of a thin-film R&D group for Eastman Kodak Co. Glocker will also work with Xingwu Wang, a professor of electrical engineering at Alfred University and a co-founder of Biophan subsidiary Nanoset LLC, to develop advanced coatings for MRI image compatibility and to assist in the commercialization of Wang's coating technologies. . . . John P. Murphy was named executive vice president and COO of PerkinElmer Inc., a Boston-based maker of instruments used in chemical and thermal analysis, optoelectronics products such as fiber optic test systems and lithography systems used in medical, industrial and telecommunications applications. Murphy was formerly president of the optoelectronics business. Robert F. Friel was named executive vice president, chief financial officer and business development. Friel has been CFO since 1999. In addition to this role, he will direct the company's business development activities focusing on health sciences and select advanced technologies. John A. Roush was appointed president of the optoelectronics business. He joined PerkinElmer in 1999 as general manager of two business units within optoelectronics, where he was most recently vice president of product management and global sales and customer operations.
