Malgorzata Kujawinska was elected 2005 president of SPIE (The International Society for Optical Engineering) at the society's annual meeting, held last month in Denver. Kujawinska is a professor of applied optics at the Department of Mechatronics, Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) and head of the Optical Engineering Division at WUT's Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics. A SPIE Fellow since 1997, Kujawinska has also served on the SPIE board and chaired numerous committees. Also elected were: Vice President Paul F. McManamon, a senior scientist, infrared sensors, for the Air Force Research Laboratory; Secretary Brian Culshaw, a professor of optoelectronics at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, and founding editor of the International Journal of Optoelectronics; and Treasurer Robert E. Fischer, CEO of Optics 1 Inc. SPIE's 2005-2007 directors are: Thomas J. Glynn, Christopher J. Progler, H. Philip Stahl and Katarina Svanberg.
