New York Gov. George E. Pataki has approved the nation's first college of nanoscience, to be created at the State University of New York at Albany's (UAlbany) Center of Excellence in Nanoelectronics. The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering will be led by UAlbany Professor Alain Kaloyeros, who will serve as vice president and chief administrative officer. Kaloyeros is executive director of Albany NanoTech and dean of the School of NanoSciences and NanoEngineering. . . . Biolase Technology Inc., a San Clemente, Calif., maker of lasers and related products for dental procedures, has appointed J. Scott Jorgensen as director of finance and investor relations. . . . Lumenis Ltd. announced it is restructuring its global sales and marketing relationship with WaveLight Laser Technologies AG, of Erlangen, Germany. Lumenis will continue to be the exclusive distributor for the Allegretto Wave excimer laser in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, and it will no longer sell in the US or in Europe. Under the new agreements, WaveLight will acquire distribution rights, assume all outstanding warranty and service obligations and purchase certain inventories and other assets from Lumenis.
