Nick Konidaris has been appointed president and CEO of Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI), a Portland, Ore., supplier of manufacturing equipment to the semiconductor, passive component and electronic equipment markets. Kondaris will become a member of ESI’s board at its January meeting. He will succeed Barry Harmon, who will remain a board member. Konidaris was most recently president and CEO of Advantest America Corp., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based maker of electronic test and measurement instruments and a subsidiary of Advantest Corp., based in Tokyo. Keith M. Hardwick has been named acting president of Advantest America. . . . Candela Corp., of Wayland, Mass., announced today that James Hsia is returning to the company as CTO. He was previously senior vice president and chief research officer at Candela, which makes laser systems for tattoo removal, treatment of dermal abnormalities and hair removal.
