DisplaySearch, a flat-planel display (FPD) market research and consulting firm, announced it has released its biannual FPD Equipment Report, covering the outlook for the thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) and TFT LCD equipment market, and its fourth annual OLED Technology Report. The company said strong demand from the LCD TV, LCD monitor, notebook PC and mobile phone markets will result in rapid growth of the TFT LCD/active matrix OLED market -- at a rate of 27 percent CAGR from 2002-2006, to $59 billion. OLED revenues are expected to grow at a rate of 68 percent through 2008, reaching nearly $3.5 billion, as shipments grow to 187 million units -- for use in portable consumer electronics, personal productivity tools, communications devices, automotive systems and industrial equipment, according to DisplaySearch. light-emitting diode
An LED, or light emitting diode, is a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it. LEDs are widely used in various applications due to their energy efficiency, compact size, and long operational life. The technology behind LEDs is based on the phenomenon of electroluminescence. Key characteristics and features of LEDs include: Electroluminescence: The process by which LEDs emit light is called electroluminescence. It involves the recombination of...
liquid crystal display
An alphanumeric display formed by a layer of liquid crystal material sandwiched between two sheets of glass; a transparent conductive coating on the glass is etched to form the character segments. An applied voltage causes the appropriate segments to darken as the molecules in the liquid crystal change their arrangement.
