Little Optics Inc., an Annapolis Junction, Md.-based developer of high-index optical waveguide materials for planar lightwave circuits, announced it has begun performing design and fabrication services for optical application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), targeting the communications, defense and biosensor industries. Little Optics generally develops embedded controls for optical ASICs. . . . NanoOpto Corp., which is applying proprietary nanofabrication technology to the design and manufacture of nano-optic devices for optical systems and networks, announced it has made a manufacturing and licensing agreement with Enplas Corp., of Kawaguchi City, Japan. The agreement covers the development and manufacture of nano-optic devices for a variety of market applications using NanoOpto's recent inventions in nanofabrication and design. NanoOpto is creating novel classes of optical components by manipulating light with nanoscale structures NanoOpto will integrate a portion of its manufacturing technology in Enplas' facilities. The first nano-optic devices being manufactured and sold under this agreement will be used in optical pick-up units for CD and DVD players and are in preproduction; additional products are in development.
