Microvision Inc. has been awarded a $1.6 million addition to a contract from the US Army's Medical Research and Material Command Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, to continue developing a head-worn display based on its scanned beam display technology that enables military surgical personnel and medics to access and transmit medical data. The system includes a wearable computer and a wireless network. Microvision said it will develop prototype demonstration units by the end of the year.   . . .    Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (RVSI) has received a $1.3 million order from a medical care network for custom data matrix readers based on its smart camera reader platform, which integrates lighting, optics, camera and processing elements into a compact desktop unit. RVSI will deliver the readers over a two-year period; deliveries are expected to begin this quarter.   . . .    Lumenis Ltd. announced it has signed an extended agreement with WaveLight Laser Technologies AG, of Erlangen, Germany, to exclusively distribute the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser system in the US, once the product has received FDA approval. Lumenis has distribution rights to the ALLEGRETTO WAVE in most Asian, European, Latin American and Middle Eastern countries. The device, which is used to treat myopia and astigmatism, was approved for use in Cananda in February. Glossary
excimer laser
An excimer laser is a type of ultraviolet laser that emits short pulses of light in the ultraviolet spectrum. The term excimer is derived from excited dimer, reflecting the nature of the gain medium used in these lasers. Excimer lasers are widely used in various industrial, medical, and scientific applications due to their ability to deliver high-energy, UV light in short pulses. Key features and characteristics of excimer lasers include: Excimer molecules: The gain medium of an excimer...
robotic vision systems
Robotic vision systems, also known as machine vision systems when integrated with robots, are technologies that enable robots to perceive and interact with their environment using visual data. These systems utilize cameras, image processing algorithms, and artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze and interpret visual information, allowing robots to perform tasks that require visual guidance, inspection, or interaction with objects and surroundings. Components: Cameras: Robotic vision...
