IPG Photonics Corp., an Oxford, Mass., maker of high-power fiber lasers, announced that its subsidiary, IPG Laser GmbH, has opened a multikilowatt fiber lasers factory in Burbach, Germany. The lasers are used for materials processing applications including automobile, shipbuilding, pipeline laying, construction and aerospace. The company said the new factory will enable it to produce more than 30 kilowatt-class lasers a month and to fill multiple orders in 2005, and that it is building a similar facility in Massachusetts to meet demand for 2006. . . . NanoOpto Corp, a Somerset, N.J., developer of nanofabrication technology to produce optical components, announced that Maria Light has joined the company as director of product management and business development. Light was senior vice president of business development at Inrad. She was previously a senior design engineer at Litton Laser Systems, where she designed receivers for large rangefinder systems and where she was part of the design team for the first dual wavelength receiver to be used on lasers that could operate in either active field or eye-safe modes. . . . Universal Display Corp., a Ewing, N.J., developer of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies for flat panel displays, lighting and other optoelectronic applications, is participating in a multiyear technology development program with Seiko Epson Corp. to develop ink-jet printed OLED displays. The companies will combine Epsons' high-speed, inkjet printing for OLEDs with Universal Display's phosphorescent OLED (PHOLED) materials for a variety of consumer markets, including televisions and home entertainment systems.
