Smiths Detection, a Wiesbaden, Germany-based supplier of trace detection and x-ray screening equipment, has won contracts valued at more than 10 million euros (about US $13 million) to supply advanced technology security equipment for three Australian airports. It will supply Sydney International Airport with checked baggage x-ray inspection systems, Perth and Cairns International Airports with trace detection equipment and inspection systems. Perth Airport has appointed Smiths Detection as its preferred supplier and ordered a number of automated x-ray inspection systems to upgrade its international baggage handling system.
