Bookham Technology, a UK provider of optical and radio frequency components, modules and subsystems, announced it will open an advanced manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China, as part of its strategy for the Asia Pacific region. The Shenzhen factory, obtained through Bookham's recent acquisition of New Focus Inc., covers 250,000 square feet, including cleanroom facilities, and will be a key assembly and test facility for the company. The first products to be manufactured in Shenzhen will be transmitter optical assemblies and receiver optical assemblies, simple amplifiers, connectors and fiber assemblies. . . . CeramTec North America (CTNA), a subsidiary of CeramTec AG, announced it has revamped its Web site, at www2.ceramtec.com. CTNA makes ceramic products including piezoceramics, hermetically sealed components, faucet control discs, pump parts, electronic and electrical application ceramics, ceramic substrates, nozzles and ceramic cutting tools. It has facilities in Laurens, S.C., and New Lebanon, N.Y. . . . Adept Technology Inc., a manufacturer of flexible automation for the automotive, electronics, telecommunications, medical device and life sciences, semiconductor and fiber optic industries, has promoted its vice president of engineering, Matt Murphy, to vice president of operations and product development and as an officer of the corporation. Dave Pap Rocki, Adept's director of hardware engineering, will oversee the management of Adept's mechanical and electrical hardware groups, and Paul James, PhD, Adept's director of software engineering, will manage Adept's software groups, including its motion and vision software teams. Both Mr. Pap Rocki and Dr. James are long-time robot and automation hardware and software veterans, together bringing over 40 years of industry experience to their roles.
