John Posey has been named the new West Coast account executive for the Specialty Photonics Division of OFS, a Norcross, Ga.-based maker of optical fiber, optical fiber cable, optical connectivity and specialty photonics products for high-speed optical networks. He will cover the Western territory for the company's various markets, including industrial, military, geophysical and telecommunications accounts. Mick Speciale will continue to represent customers in the medical sector. . . . Stuart Schoenmann has been named CEO and president of CVI Laser, a laser optics manufacturer based in Albuquerque, N.M. Schoenmann previously held executive positions with Raytek, Corning, OCA and Perkin Elmer. . . . Roberto Ramirez-Iniguez of Optical Antenna Solutions Ltd., in Coventry, England, received the 2002/2003 Sir Henry Royce Award, presented at an Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) dinner Thursday at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. The Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation and the UK-based IEE established the Sir Henry Royce Award in 1990 to recognize younger IEE members' work in the electronics, electrical, manufacturing and information technology professions. Ramirez, a University of Warwick postgraduate, recently received a PhD in engineering in the field of optical wireless communications. His PhD work was related to the design, fabrication and use of optical concentrators for wireless infrared communications.
