eMagin Corp., a manufacturer of active matrix organic light emitting diode (OLED) microdisplays, said its displays are being used in the HelmetIR, made by Night Vision Equipment Co., a manufacturer of night vision and laser products. The lightweight, military helmet-mounted thermal image allows hands-free operation and uses an amorphous silicon microbolometer that allows viewers to see a battlefield through obstacles and in any weather. The device was introduced recently at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Expo in Washington and at the US Naval Institute Warfare Exposition in Virginia Beach, Va.   . . .   FLIR Systems Inc. has been awarded a $19.8 million supply contract from the USS. Navy's Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, for its enhanced targeting sights for use with the Special Operations Forces laser marker. The targeting sight is based on FLIR's MilCAM See Spot III thermal imaging camera, which produces high-resolution thermal images for night vision and simultaneously detects the repetitive laser pulses of a precision munitions guidance laser designating a target. The work will be performed at FLIR's facility in North Billerica, Mass. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2004 and to be completed by July 2005.
