PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 11 – DRS Technologies Inc. has received a contract to provide Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance Systems (LRAS3) for the US Army's High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles. The $8.7 million contract was awarded by Raytheon Systems Co.'s Electronic Systems operation in McKinney, Texas, and provides additional funding and added scope to the LRAS3 program. The company's DRS Optronics unit in Palm Bay, Fla., will do the work for this contract. "This award strengthens DRS's market position as a leading Army supplier of second generation infrared ground vehicle sighting, targeting and detection systems," said Mark S. Newman, chairman, president and CEO of DRS Technologies. "As part of the Army's Horizontal Technology Integration initiative and its modernization strategy for the 21st century, LRAS3 is an important program for our customer and is key to DRS's strategy for growth in our electro-optical systems business segment."
