SAN DIEGO, Nov. 1 -- Citing a product shift toward its newer value-added excimer illumination sources, Cymer Inc. has recorded its best-ever net income and revenue for the third quarter and for the nine months ended September 30. Net income totaled nearly $18.1 million, or $0.58 per diluted share, compared with net income of $3.45 million, or $0.12 per diluted share, for the same quarter last year. Total revenue for the third quarter rose to approximately $98.4 million, a 67 percent increase compared with a $58.9 million total revenue for the same 1999 period. Compared with this year's second quarter net income of nearly $15.3 million, or $0.50 per diluted share, the third quarter's net income rose 18 percent while total revenue grew 14 percent over the second quarter's total revenue of $86.2 million. For the first nine months of 2000, Cymer recorded net income of $43.5 million, or $1.40 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $337,000, or $0.01 per diluted share, for the same 1999 period. Total revenue in the first nine months of 2000 rose to approximately $265.3 million, an increase of more than 86 percent compared with the same period last year.
