CyberOptics Reports Multiple Orders for Inspection Gear

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 12 -- CyberOptics Corp. reported orders for multiple units of its automated optical inspection (AOI) and solder paste inspection systems from five electronic manufacturing services companies, two telecommunications companies and five end-user electronic manufacturers in the fourth quarter of 2000 ended December 31. Initial shipments of these systems were made to multiple customers during the fourth quarter and will continue in the first quarter of 2001.
Introduced earlier in the year, the KS 100 and KS 50 are AOI systems developed for manufacturers of printed circuit boards. The KS 100 checks for the presence of components and measures the level of placement precision after all components have been placed on the circuit board by robotic pick-and-place equipment. The KS 50 checks for the presence of components either after the pick-and-place machine or after the board has passed through the reflow oven.
The SE 300, which was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2000, is a new-generation solder paste inspection system also used by manufacturers of printed circuit boards. The SE 300 provides full-board inspection and possesses the optical resolution required for inspecting the solder pads of the smallest microcomponents now in use.
