Representatives from the business and research sectors have developed a first draft of guidelines with standardized process descriptions for optical coherence tomography (OCT). The VDI/VDE Society for Measurement and Automation Technology (GMA)’s Technical Committee 8.19 “Optical Coherence Tomography” seeks to develop a standardized set of rules for the relatively new imaging modality, which is finding use in biomedical applications and industrial measurement. The first published work from the committee is available in the draft guideline VDI/VDE 5565 Part 1. The draft describes OCT procedures and defines relevant terms. To reach a broad section of the OCT community, the draft has been published in German and English. Comments and objections can be submitted until July 31. The resulting policy will be published following appeals. The committee has already begun work on a second set of standards regarding signal processing and data evaluation and has plans for a draft regarding the metrological characterization of OCT systems.
