SAN JOSE, April 6 – Cisco Systems Inc announced that it would no longer make the 15900 Wavelength Router, a product that came out of its acquisition of Monterey Networks, in August 1999. The company blamed slower sales than anticipated for the decision to stop manufacturing the device.
Cisco will shift router personnel to the metropolitan optical market, which has been growing faster than the core of optical networks. Competitors in the market for the discontinued product include Ciena Corp., Lucent Technologies Inc., Nortel Networks and a handful of start-ups.
