PARIS and BEIJING, Dec. 16 -- Alcatel and Beijing Communications Corp., a subsidiary of China Netcom, announced today they have signed a $20 million contract to build an intelligent optical network to enhance the information infrastructure in Beijing. The contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company.
Under the contract, Alcatel will provide China Netcom with metro solutions including an optical multiservice node, a cross connect and a network management platform. Alcatel will also set up a technical support center in Beijing.
The project is expected to be completed in July.
