MIDDLESEX, England, Feb. 7 -- CRL Opto, Scipher's liquid crystal display development and licensing business, has won a joint contract in partnership with Brimar Inc, to supply Flight Visions Inc. with a new flat panel light engine for commercial and military aviation head-up displays (HUDs).
The new light engines are set to replace cathode ray tubes (CRTs) in HUDs, providing higher performance and efficiency. The total available market for light engines is in excess of $10 million for both commercial and military applications, said CRL Opto. The light engine is an efficient replacement for CRTs in those high-brightness HUD applications where power consumption lifetime and size are major factors. It is based on CRL Opto's liquid crystal display technology and uses Scipher's patent protected electrodeless lighting technology.
Flight Visions develops high-performance cockpit displays and HUDs for military and civilian aircraft. Flight Visions' products and systems are currently flying on 19 different aircraft types, from high-performance fighters like the F-14B, to civilian business aircraft, transports and rotary wing aircraft.
CRL Opto develops and licenses new LCD technologies and creates advanced optoelectronic products and solutions.
