NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 21 -- Amherst FiberOptics Inc. announced last week thath it has ceased operations, effective immediately. According to the company's website, the shutdown is "due in part to the dramatic downturn in the fiber optics market."
Its parent company, TVC Communications, said it "does not plan to extend the employment of any of Amherst's senior management team," and that it terminated the jobs of Amherst's remaining 18 employees without notice or severance agreements.
Amherst FiberOptics was purchased by TVC Communications on August 1, 2000, from The Ware Group for an estimated $70 million. Amherst was the sole distributor for Ericsson fusion splicers and Seca Photonics automated fusion splicing solutions in North America.
