PARIS, July 23 -- Alcatel announced it is a major supplier of communications equipment for OTE, the Greek telecommunications company that will provide the network infrastructure for the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to be held next month in Athens.
OTE will provide advanced voice, data and multimedia services to local and international users. Beginning August 13, the opening of the Olympics, communications traffic to and from Athens and surrounding areas will significantly increase. Journalists and broadcasters from all over the world gathering in Athens will require technologies enabling fast and efficient data and multimedia transmission over different networks and devices.
Alcatel said it has deployed solutions including terrestrial and submarine optical transport systems, multiservice data networking platforms, broadband access with DSL solutions, microwave radios and IP-PBX systems, in addition to professional and consultancy services.
Products include the Alcatel 1686 WM for terrestrial applications; the Alcatel 1640 WM for unrepeatered submarine applications; data-aware SDH optical multiservice node systems; 7300 ASAM (DSL broadband access); 7470 multiservice data networking; the 7390 LMDS family of wireless local loop solutions; the OmniPCX Enterprise for IP communications; the 9400 UX/LX and the 9600 USY/LSY solutions for PDH and SDH microwave radio applications.
