Agiltron Inc., a Wilmington, Mass., maker of fiber optic components, announced today design wins with several leading telecommunication systems companies for its MEMS-based variable optical attenuator (VOA). The company is now producing these components in volume. Agiltron said development of its proprietary MM-VOA was partially supported by a grant from the US Department of Commerce Advanced Technology Program. It uses a differentiated MEMS technology to achieve a simple and highly robust design, the company said. "Key customer adoption of our MM VOA validates Agiltron's growth strategy of applying leading-edge technology to alleviate price pressure while providing improved product performance to the customer. This model has enabled Agiltron to operate profitably since 2001," said Jack Salerno, vice president of technology and strategic business. Agiltron is exhibiting these products at booth 2585.
