SANTA BARBARA, Calif, May 7 -- Agility Communications has received a $2 million grant to develop a compact, high-performance, indium phosphide photonic integrated circuit (PIC) that integrates Agility's widely tunable laser, an optical amplifier and a high-speed (10 Gb/s to 40 Gb/s) optical modulator. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) awarded grant under its Advanced Technology Program.
Agility said the new 40 Gb/s widely tunable transmitter is expected to dramatically lower the cost for transmitters now used in Internet data systems.
