Traditional analog wireless networks rely heavily on the flatness and low noise characteristics of the fiberoptic laser and receivers. This white paper introduces the concept of predistortion to further enhance the optical link performance beyond the capabilities of standard off the shelf lasers and photodiodes. This performance improvement results in best-in-class link performance of several dBs. Expanding predistortion techniques to wider frequency bands is not widely used and the performance factors have yet to be optimized. This paper describes Ortel’s use of predistortion to fully realize the circuit potential of our lasers and photodiodes.
