Raman microscopy is a powerful technique for identifying the source of forensic samples, such as paint traces. It can differentiate samples that could be construed as having a common origin based on visual characteristics. A multiple-wavelength study highlighted the effects of resonance Raman scattering on sample spectra. Spectral library searching allows for the matching of an unknown paint sample to a reference within seconds.
