About This Webinar
This presentation focuses on the pressing necessity for real-time chemical sensing in continuous pharmaceutical production and large-scale bioprocessing. Despite many advancements, current measurement techniques lack automation and provide delayed data. Continuous real-time monitoring can enhance product quality and reduce costs but scalability, both in terms of expense and sensor quantity, is imperative.

To address these challenges, Persits proposes a pragmatic solution: a utility service model using Swept Source Raman Spectroscopy (SSRS). The core of this model is the SSRS fiber probe, enabling Raman spectra measurement with minimal laser power yet equivalent sensitivity to benchtop systems. Leveraging existing optical fiber infrastructure, the expansion of SSRS into a large-scale sensor network, using a single shared laser source is demonstrated.

A demonstration of the network's performance is given by monitoring metabolites in mammalian cell cultures and additionally with measurements of hydroponic systems and environmental water samples, demonstrating new and exciting avenues for this novel chemical sensing architecture.
