About This Webinar
Displays are windows into the connected world; nearly every consumer device today has a display and a smartphone without one is impossible to imagine. They are getting larger and more interactive in homes and cars, for example. State-of-the-art versions are slim, bendable, high-resolution, and provide a wide color gamut. In the future, displays will range in size from tiny versions for AR and VR applications to versions measuring >100-in. diagonally for very large wall TVs. Producing these state-of-the-art displays requires the use of lasers, especially for the creation of high-end and high-resolution displays.

Oliver Haupt from Coherent discusses the use of OLED displays for smartphones and the adoption of OLED displays in the IT sector. He also addresses the incremental market opportunity for microLED displays from the small range in AR to the large 4K TV market. Finally, he discusses the increasing need for UV short-wavelength lasers to be implemented in production due to the display material combinations, increase of active display areas, and pixel sizes down to the micron level.

Who should attend:
Researchers, manufacturers, and designers who work with displays or in laser applications. Those who are interested in learning about how lasers can be used in the design and manufacture of displays, or who use displays, imaging, LEDs, and optical components in industries such as aerospace, automotive, defense, machine vision, medicine, and semiconductors.

About the presenter:
Oliver Haupt, Ph.D., is marketing director for the display equipment market at Coherent. He earned his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Hannover and has more than 20 years of experience in general laser applications. He previously worked at Laser Zentrum Hannover on laser processes for brittle materials. At Coherent, he began working as head of sales for DPSS lasers, then moved to product line manager for the Coherent Excimer lasers and FlexOLED LLO systems in Goettingen, Germany. Since 2015, Haupt's focus has been laser-based microLED and OLED display applications. He is currently responsible for the products and market strategy related to display capital equipment within the CMO team at Coherent.
