About This Webinar
Engineering the Next Generation of Large-Format High-Power Optics
As laser systems continue to scale in power and energy density, optical components are approaching their physical and technological limits. Large-format optics — those exceeding 200 mm in diameter — are critical for next-generation laser fusion, particle acceleration, and high-energy physics facilities, as well as for directed-energy laser weapon systems. Producing such optics with consistently high laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDT), low absorption, and uniformity across the entire surface remains a significant challenge in photonics manufacturing.

This webinar examines how ion-beam sputtering (IBS) technology can address these limitations, enabling reliable production of dielectric optics up to approximately 500 mm in diameter, optimized for high-power laser applications. Drawing on recent R&D results and industrial case studies from OPTOMAN’s latest development program, the session will highlight how process and equipment optimization, coupled with advanced metrology, unlocks new performance levels in large-aperture components.

Key topics include:

  • Technical barriers in scaling IBS coatings beyond 400 mm
  • Achieving high LIDT (>1 J/cm² @ 1030 nm) and low absorption (<2 ppm) across large areas
  • Uniformity and stress management in coatings
  • Metrology and qualification methods for large optics (interferometry, absorption, LIDT testing)
  • Implications for laser fusion, defense, and scientific markets

Gain a clear understanding of the state of the art in large-format optics and the technological pathways toward mass-production readiness.

Who should attend:
This webinar is designed for laser system engineers, optical engineers, and R&D managers, as well as professionals in the fusion energy, defense, and high-energy physics industries. It is also relevant for researchers and procurement leads working with high-power laser components.

Attendees will gain practical insights into how IBS technology can overcome uniformity and damage-threshold bottlenecks, enhance optical reliability, and create new opportunities for system performance. The session will help engineers and project leaders evaluate emerging supply options for large-aperture optics.

About the presenter:
Lukas Ceizaris is the chief marketing officer at OPTOMAN, a laser optics manufacturer specializing in advanced coating technologies. He holds a master’s degree in management engineering from Politecnico di Milano in Italy and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Vilnius University in Lithuania. Ceizaris began his career in an optical coatings laboratory, gaining hands-on experience with both magnetron and ion-beam sputtering technologies. At OPTOMAN, he oversees strategic new product development projects and advocates for responsible innovation in high-power laser coatings, guided by the principle that with great laser power comes great responsibility for coaters.
