About This Webinar
VCSELs have special properties, in contrast to other typical laser sources. As a result, VCSEL eye-safety evaluation is more complex, and a couple of additional aspects have to be considered that would not apply for normal lasers. Consequently, the validation of a VCSEL's laser class is not trivial, and it is even more important because an easily understandable guideline for the assessment of VCSEL safety has not yet been published.

In this presentation, Predehl of Instrument Systems will guide you through:
  1. VCSELs in 3D sensing applications.
  2. Laser eye safety.
  3. Laser safety: the IEC60825-1 standard.
  4. Laser classes.
  5. VCSEL beam geometry.
  6. Laser class assessment: flow chart.

About the presenter:
Katharina Predehl, Ph.D., is the program manager for LD (laser desorption) and LED testing at Instrument Systems GmbH in Munich. She has a strong background in laser physics and lidar development, as well as in VCSEL testing.

About the sponsor:
With the development of high-end light-measurement solutions, Instrument Systems supports their customers' innovative and safe products. Market leaders in the automotive and aviation industry, the lighting industry, and consumer electronics place their trust in our measuring systems for the qualification of lighting components and displays. High-precision spectrometers, (spectrally corrected) imaging colorimeters, photometers, and goniometers are our main products, operated by user-friendly software solutions for production, QC, and R&D labs. The new VCSEL testing portfolio by Instrument Systems covers single-shot spatial measurements in the near and far fields, spectral VCSEL characteristics, plus total power for down to 1-ns pulses of the thermally stabilized DUT (device under test).

Instrument Systems can share an unrivaled specialist knowledge over an extremely broad range of applications. As a successful medium-size technology enterprise, we have been a member of the Konica Minolta Group since 2012. Assisted by our representatives who have many years of experience, we use the group's international network to offer our customers optimal support and reliable global service.
