About This Webinar
To face the climate and air pollution challenges of today and tomorrow, more and better atmospheric data is required. Optical techniques operating in the mid-infrared (MIR) range, where most atmospheric species exhibit fundamental absorption bands, are powerful gas-sensing tools with which to achieve data goals. Jerome Thiebaud discusses how the future of atmospheric monitoring lies in the commoditization of emerging photonics technologies. He gives a short review of the developments over the last several decades — from the first tunable diode laser absorption spectrometers to current commercial trace gas analyzers. Thiebaud presents the state of the art for both fixed and mobile ultrasensitive analyzers and extrapolates current trends that are leading to a future in which trace gas analyzers have become ubiquitous.

***This presentation premiered during the 2022 Photonics Spectra Spectroscopy Conference. For more information on Photonics Media conferences, visit events.photonics.com.

About the presenter:
Jerome ThiebaudJerome Thiebaud, Ph.D., is president of Aeris Technologies Inc. His professional focus is on applied research in physical chemistry, laser spectroscopy, chemical sensing, and gas analysis instrumentation. His work has been published in journals such as Applied Physics B, the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, the Journal of Chemical Physics, and Environmental Science & Technology. Thiebaud’s expertise primarily involves the design of laser-based chemical analysis techniques. His work spans instrument prototyping, programming, data analysis, and commercialization. He holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate from the University of Lille in France. His doctoral work focused on cavity ringdown spectroscopy and its application to the spectroscopy and kinetics of atmospheric radicals. Thiebaud completed his training with two post-doctoral fellowships — at the University of Toronto and at SRI International in California. He has served as senior scientist for companies such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and Los Gatos Research (part of ABB). He joined Aeris Technologies as director of R&D in 2014.
