Wasatch Photonics - How Do Gratings Impact Our Daily Lives?
Our Gratings Designer, Elroy Pearson talks about some of the ways that Wasatch Photonics' diffraction gratings are used in everyday applications, from medical diagnostics to manufacturing, as well as scientific endeavors like astronomy telescopes and basic research.
A diffraction grating separates light into its colors to generate a spectrum that can be used to analyze or manipulate the light. Wasatch Photonics designs and manufactures volume phase holographic (VPH) gratings, a type of grating that offers a high efficiency alternative to traditional reflective ruled gratings. Our technology allows us to make gratings that transmit the dispersed light with low polarization dependence, and which can be cost-effectively tailored to the needs of each specific application. Our VPH transmission gratings can also be easily handled and cleaned, and have even traveled to Mars.
