Bruker AXS Inc. has released the Microstar Ultra, an ultrabright x-ray source for structural biology applications. Yielding intensities of up to 8 × 1010 x-rays per mm2/s, the instrument incorporates electron optics, anode cooling and a single- or dual-port configuration. The company says that it requires little maintenance, permits long operating times and can be used on even the smallest crystals for high-throughput screening as well as for structural determination.
