SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 15, 2009 – Coherent Inc. has launched the next generation of diode-pumped solid-state continuous-wave lasers. The Verdi G-Series is available in both 2- and 5-W green (532 nm) versions. By replacing the conventional gain medium with an optically pumped semiconductor structure, the company has made a more robust, wavelength-flexible and compact source suited for scientific applications, including pumping of ultrafast and continuous-wave Ti:sapphire lasers. The devices have a 50% smaller footprint than previous Verdi models and a lower price and operating cost, and they offer the ability to use other wavelengths.
The all semiconductor-based lasers are powered by proprietary AAA (aluminum-free active area) diodes and the company’s patented OPSL (optically pumped semiconductor laser) technology and its PermAlign solder-down platform.
Spectral purity is >99%, spatial mode is TEM00, beam quality is M2 <1.1, and noise is <0.03% rms. The CDRH-compliant lasers operate at temperatures from 10 to 40 °C. Beam pointing stability is <2µrad/°C, warm-up time is <10 min, power consumption is 500 W, and operating voltage is from 100 to 240 VAC.
Applications include spectroscopy, holography, interferometry, carrier envelope phase stabilization, atom cooling and trapping, semiconductor inspection, lithography and micromaterials processing.
