DUNEDIN, Fla., March 16, 2011 — Delivering high throughput, low stray light of ~0.015% at 400 nm and good thermal stability, Ocean Optics’ Torus family of aberration-corrected holographic concave diffraction grating spectrometers is suitable for use in applications ranging from absorbance measurements of optically dense solutions to fluorescence measurements in solutions and powders.
The compact visible spectrometers (360 to 825 nm) have a flat-field optical design, and the reflective holographic concave grating disperses light. The concavity of the grating reflects and focuses the light, and the grating groove pattern disperses it. The toroidal nature of the grating further enhances the aberration correction and efficiency.
The instruments deliver optical resolution of <1.6 nm full width half maximum and have a 25-µm slit installed in the optical bench. Wavelength drift is mitigated and peak shape stays the same over a temperature range of ~0 to 50 ºC. For convenient experiment setups, the spectrometers interface to a computer via a USB port and couple to the company’s accessories. They are available with a variety of slits, filters and other optical bench accessories for optimizing configurations. Free-space optical coupling is accommodated with a standard C-mount adapter.
They operate via proprietary SpectraSuite spectroscopy software that runs on Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems and is compatible with the company’s OmniDriver and SeaBreeze software development platforms. Software is available separately.
