Canon successfully developed the world’s first immersion grating contributing to progress in cosmological observation. It expands the range of observable infrared frequencies for spectroscopes, the critical devices of astronomical telescopes and man-made satellites, enabling retrieval of further information contained within light emitted from space. It can reduce spectrometers to 1/27th volume of those equipped with typical reflective elements that cover the same frequencies while overcoming restrictions on size and weight.
