The Silicon Nitride (SN) light source from Kyocera Corporation was developed for use in high-performance Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers. Using Kyocera’s SN heater and glow plug IP portfolio, each heater embedded within the SN ceramic of the light source can be customized to have a unique pattern, as well as wattage, output temperature, and the heating area. The use of Silicon Nitride also allows for higher spectral emissivity, creating a more accurate identification of substances because it produces clear spectral peaks specific to that substance.
