PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Feb. 18, 2010 – Alphion Corp. has announced the introduction of the 1060-nm SAX20r semiconductor optical amplifier for optical coherence tomography applications.
Based on the proprietary QLight technology platform for manufacturing advanced discrete photonic devices, the instrument is suitable for use as a gain medium for swept sources and as an amplified spontaneous emission source. It is used in a variety of applications including fiber optic sensing, medical imaging, and test and measurement. It is available with HI 1060 fiber and FC/APC connectors. Other fiber (PM980) and connector options are available upon request.
Supplied in a multisource agreement-compliant 14-pin butterfly package, the amplifier features wide bandwidth operation (X-band: 40 nm, O-Band: 100 nm, C-Band: 150 nm) and low polarization dependence. The laser-welded, hermetic, organics-free package ensures reliable operation and incorporates a thermistor and a thermoelectric cooler to provide stability over the full operating temperature range of 0 to 70 °C.
Maximum operating bias current is 450 mA, with 300 mA typical. Maximum optical amplifier reverse bias is 2 V, maximum thermistor current is 5 mA, maximum thermoelectric current is 1.8 A, and maximum thermoelectric voltage is 3.4 V.
Operating wavelength range is from 1040 to 1080 nm, minimum peak gain is 19 dB, maximum gain ripple is 2 dB, minimum saturation output power is 7 dBm, typical forward voltage is 2 V, and maximum total power consumption is 4 W.
