Princeton Instruments’ PI-MAX4:1024i-RF fiber optically coupled intensified CCD (ICCD) camera affords users control of experiments via proprietary 64-bit LightField software.
It enables frequency domain measurements for fluorescence lifetime studies. By modulating the gain of its Gen III filmless intensifier at a radio frequency (RF) rate between 1 and 200 MHz, the camera operates as a 2-D lock-in amplifier. Each pixel acts as an individual phase-sensitive lock-in detector. Applications include fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, Förster resonance energy transfer, frequency domain scientific imaging, time-resolved imaging and spectroscopy, plasma diagnostics, combustion studies, planar laser-induced fluorescence and particle imaging velocimetry.
There are two independent built-in direct digital synthesizers. One generates the RF to modulate the intensifier; the other provides a user-controlled RF signal that modulates the illumination to perform RF phase-sensitive detection. The graphical user interface allows users to select modulation frequency, to control phase sweep range and granularity, and to set RF output peak-to-peak voltage levels. The camera produces a 1-MHz sustained repetition rate, allows two images to be captured in rapid succession, features good system linearity and uses a high-bandwidth GigE data interface.
The SuperSynchro precision timing generator offers time resolution of 10 ps and jitter of 35 ps. SyncMaster1 and SyncMaster2 independent trigger outputs eliminate the need for an external timing generator.
