Scientific CMOS Camera Upgrade
Hamamatsu CorporationRequest Info
The ORCA-Flash4.0 scientific CMOS camera from Hamamatsu Corp. now includes proprietary ImageConductor Connectivity, a function that automatically senses which of the camera’s two output connections, USB 3.0 or Camera Link, is being used.
The standard version is supplied with a USB 3.0 board and cable only. The default USB 3.0 configuration provides 30-fps imaging at full 2k × 2k resolution. If a faster frame rate is required, the user can upgrade the camera, without any modifications, by purchasing the company’s high-speed PCI x8 Camera Link board and cable. The addition of the Camera Link board to a user’s computer enables 100 fps of full-resolution data possible.
Featuring high sensitivity and low noise, the camera has quantum efficiency values of >70% at 600 nm and 50% at 750 nm. In every configuration and at every speed, it produces 1.9 electrons rms (1.3 electrons median) read noise. Its 6.5 × 6.5-µm pixel size is suitable for applications such as superresolution microscopy, total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy, ratio imaging, high-speed calcium-ion imaging, Förster resonance energy transfer and real-time confocal microscopy.
