NEWARK, Del., Feb. 28, 2011 — B&W Tek Inc. has announced the updated Quest series high-performance miniature fiber optic spectrometers that now feature an ultralow thermal drift spectrum and a faster readout speed of >2 MHz. The devices are now available with an optional RS-232 communication interface for convenient integration into larger systems.
Their fast readout speed makes them suitable for use in high-speed applications such as LED binning and sorting. They employ both a traditional crossed Czerny Turner spectrograph (Quest X) as well as an unfolded Czerny Turner spectrograph (Quest U) that minimizes stray light in the UV region. The series is equipped with a 2048-element linear CCD array, a built-in 16-bit digitizer and an externally synchronized trigger.
The Quest X noncooled linear CCD array spectrometer has a plug-and-play USB 2.0 interface and is supplied standard with external event synchronization and external trigger input. It is suitable for use in most ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared applications with the company’s standard spectral configurations starting at 200 to as high as 1050 nm. With various slit options, resolutions between 0.5 and 3 nm can be achieved. Readout speed is >2 MHz, and minimum integration time is 1 ms.
The Quest U, also uncooled, is designed for ultraviolet and visible applications. It has a low-stray-light optical bench, a USB 2.0 interface and an auxiliary port for external event synchronization and external trigger. It is available in two standard spectral configurations: 200 to 400 nm, and 200 to 850 nm. Custom configurations are available for OEM applications.
