The P16309-01 quantum cascade photodetector from Hamamatsu Photonics KK features a cut-off frequency of 20 GHz with no cooling.
The device is sensitive to MWIR light by harnessing a quantum structure and circuit design technology. Using it as a photodetector for analytical instruments will allow the measurement of chemical reactions such as combustion and explosion in the order of picoseconds. Analysis is performed at short time intervals. Other applications include high-speed, large-capacity spatial communications, and long-range lidar.
