In solar cells, dye-sensitized solar cells based on bacterial-based photosensitizers have been studied for their enhanced efficiency in converting photons to electrons. Organic photocatalysis utilizes photosensitizers to generate radicals or ions for organic reactions. Photodynamic therapy employs photosensitizers to selectively target and treat cancer cells.
